Missed the closing date for entries at the National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA)? Don’t sweat the closing date has been extended to the 10th of July.
NEA is a platform for youth development in music, dance, drama and visual arts. However, this programme isn’t limited to talent performers or people who want to pursue a career in the arts only. If you are young and passionate about performing arts, you can still apply. Even the so-called “mediocre” or “untalented” performer will learn a great deal from participating in the NEA due to the impact it has on personal development and growth. The programme is renowned for its ability to build self-confidence and assertiveness in performers and encourages them to take a stand in the world.
The NEA Eisteddfod opens up unique opportunities for talented learners: in each region the annual eisteddfod is followed by a Young Performers Showcase concert where top performers are featured and acknowledged by means of awards, medals, and certificates. In addition to this all recipients of diploma awards are also invited to participate in the annual National Eisteddfod Academy Awards. This event provides a next level of participation where the best young performers from various regions in the country can compete and showcase their talents in music, dance and drama. Recently cash prizes amounting to R20, 000, as well as two scholarships (a Damelin College Bramley Scholarship and an Academy College Scholarship) with a total value of more than a R100, 000 were awarded to the winners in the NEA Awards 2009.
